Using Your Sweet Tooth to Fight Alzheimer’s

Let’s be honest, most of us don’t need a reason to enjoy a milkshake, especially in the summer! Now milkshakes may have gotten even better. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, there is now a milkshake for Alzheimer’s patients. It is estimated that 1 in 8 people over the age of 65 are affected by the disease, which is associated with memory loss, decreased judgment and personality changes. The new milkshake treatment, Axona, which is available by prescription only, provides energy to the brain, providing short-term positive effects in cognition and memory. Whether this is an option for your senior or not, it still makes one crave a creamy milkshake this weekend!

Looking for somewhere to take your senior to enjoy a milkshake? Here are some famously delicious choices:

• Steak n’ Shake
• McDonald’s
• Wendy’s

Or whip up a great tasting milkshake at home. Try this recipe and feel free to create your own concoction!

Ingredients
• 2 cups vanilla ice cream
• 1 cup whole milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
1. In a blender, combine ice cream, milk and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.
