From nursing to in-home care – one franchisee’s experience

It’s common knowledge that the health care industry is flourishing and jobs in this field are in demand. Many people join the nursing profession because they have a passion for helping and connecting with others but some nurses find other career avenues where their skills are just as useful and appreciated.

Holly Gale, a registered nurse whose career spanned more than 12 years, found her calling in the non-medical in-home care industry. When her father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004, she took a leave of absence from nursing to care for him. Years later, her mother was also diagnosed with cancer and Holly stepped in to care for her. Through this, she came to understand the growing need for professional and quality caregivers. These experiences as a family caregiver prompted her to open a business in the home care industry where she could help others in similar situations and she became a FirstLight franchisee and opened a location in Chandler, Ariz., in September 2011.

There are plenty of other options for nurses looking to pursue other careers in the health care arena but the bottom line is that you have to love what you do. I think it’s fair to say that all of our FirstLight owners fit this bill!
