Independence Day is July 4th. If you have older family members that you are going to celebrate the holiday weekend with, here are a few fun things you can do to celebrate our country’s birthday but also their own personal independence.
Games: Play some old favorites like cards, checkers, tic-tac-toe and more. These games will help them sync hand/eye and brain coordination plus it will give you quality time together to catch up and talk about how they’re doing.
Walks: If they are able, take a walk each day you are with them. Get them into the habit of doing something physical each day. The fresh air and change of pace can make a huge difference in mood and circulation.
Go Somewhere: Do something that they love outside the home. Take them to their favorite restaurant, park, mall, local museum or wherever they want to go.
Music: Play some music that they enjoy and dance.
Our loved ones need to be motivated mentally, physically, and socially to maintain health and to avoid depression and isolation. Start with the upcoming 4th of July holiday to do something special and meaningful with them and then continue doing so throughout the entire year.
From all of us at FirstLight Home Care, we hope you have a safe and happy July 4th celebration.
