Brain health is the ability to remember, learn, play, concentrate and maintain a clear, active mind. Maintaining brain health is about capitalizing on its strengths and reducing some of the risks to our brain as we age. There are many things we can do – physically and mentally – to boost brain health. And the earlier we start, the better chance we have of reducing cognitive decline. At FirstLight® Home Care, our goal is to improve overall health and well-being and enhance quality of life, especially for those with cognitive deficits related to Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and traumatic brain injury.
We offer memory care training
Caring for those with cognitive deficits can be difficult unless you are equipped with specialized training.
National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners
FirstLight’s certified memory care practitioners utilize training provided by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners to develop personalized, engaging care plans for clients with various forms of dementia.
Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach® to Care
Our resident nurse provides franchise owners with specialized training from Teepa Snow, a leading educator on dementia care. Nurse Beckie has been trained in Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care, and she teaches the practical skills of this training to help our FirstLight offices better care for those living with dementia.
We are community advocates
FirstLight partners with organizations across the country that support Alzheimer’s and dementia care and research, and those that promote brain health. Our local offices volunteer their time, participate in fundraising efforts and help educate caregivers of individuals with cognitive decline.
