Personalized Pinellas County Dementia Care Services
For Any Stage of Dementia, Including Alzheimer’s Disease
Aside from memory loss and confusion, individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s often become upset, frustrated and experience depression due to their loss of control. This can be challenging for both the individual and the family. At FirstLight Home Care, we understand this challenge and have developed our Dementia Care and Elderly Care Program for individuals in Clearwater, Largo, Seminole, and surrounding Pinellas County communities, that assists in creating daily routine planning. By providing structure to their home routine, we can assist in increasing quality of life while decreasing potential daily stressors.
We understand that each individual with dementia is an individual person with different personalities, life accomplishments and needs. This is often forgotten when overwhelmed with the changes that come with dementia. Despite the degree of disease progression, we can show you that it is possible for your loved one to have positive experiences each day while having their basic needs met.
Person-First Dementia Care
It is common practice to live our lives with an end goal in mind. Working towards this goal is what gives our lives purpose. With the diagnosis of dementia, comes the feeling of defeat and failure. At FirstLight Home Care, instead of focusing on the disease and the associated limitations, we place emphasis on how the individual can create new daily routines and experience the feeling of success.
Your loved one is made the center of this routine through the development of our “Who I Am” booklet. When creating this booklet, the main focus is on detailing factors, activities and/or experiences that have impacted the your loved one in positive ways while also understanding what factors can have a negative impact. Common questions asked concerning your loved one’s history include:
- What makes you happy?
- Feel accomplished?
- What distresses or frustrates you?
It is important for our care coordinators to collaborate with caregivers to utilize this information for realistic and flexible daily plans that are unique to each dementia client. This provides a visual description for both the and family to follow. Due to the constant nature of change with dementia, we make it a priority to consistently assess our program’s effectiveness through client experience and overall satisfaction surveys. Information collected from these surveys is used to develop and discuss new ideas and perspectives via focus groups. With all gathered input, advisory councils are held to provide additional guidance and insight to allow us to accomplish our company goal of creating the best experience.
