A Personalized, Engaging Approach to Dementia Care
For Any Stage of Dementia, Including Alzheimer’s Disease
Individuals who have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s can oftentimes feel lonely, anxious, sad, or confused. However, FirstLight Home Care of Livonia offers dementia care and elderly care plans and strategies to help both the affected individuals and their entire families.
The different stages of dementia that individuals are in do not define them. Affected individuals may be talking and acting out-of-the-norm, behaving differently, or repeatedly forgetting things, but each person still has unique characteristics and feelings.
Person-First Dementia Care
The Dementia Care and Elderly Care Program at FirstLight Home Care of Livonia is designed to focus on the affected individual as opposed to focusing on the disease. We strive to ensure affected individuals can find meaning in their lives, and the goal of this customized program is to integrate who the individual is now and who he or she used to be.
By filling out the “Who I Am” packets, our clients can give us insight into their loved ones including:
- What makes you happy?
- Feel accomplished?
- What distresses or frustrates you?
At FirstLight Home Care, we believe that one-on-one care is imperative for the success of our Dementia Care Program; therefore, we have caretakers and coordinators who compile the provided information and use it to formulate a daily plan for the affected individual. We provide in-person consultations to ensure our clients choose the caregiver they are most comfortable with, and we also ask for feedback from our clients through focus groups, advisory councils, and satisfaction surveys. This allows us to gain insight into how our clients feel and how we can improve our tactics to provide the best dementia care and elderly care for them in Livonia, Farmington Hills, Southfield, Plymouth, and Northville.
