FirstLight is About People
Home Care is Not a Career, It’s a Calling
We know your first priority when choosing a home care provider is finding someone you can trust and rely on… someone who will care for your loved one as you would, and as we would our own. We’ve been where you are, and this is one of the main reasons we chose to be in this business.
Somers, N.Y., resident Vincent McMahon can attest to how hard work and perseverance pays off. Prior to opening FirstLight Home Care in Mount Kisco, the Ireland native had spent the past 15 years working his way up the Wall Street ladder, becoming a senior vice president with a financial firm at the young age of 34. Although Vincent had a successful career under his belt, the long days and grueling commute required by his job was no longer something he could live with.
Wanting to find a career that not only allowed him to spend more time with his family but to also make a positive impact on the local community, Vincent left his Wall Street position behind. His first-hand experiences with providing care for his own aging grandparents when they lived with his family in Ireland, along with many neighbors and friends in the community, led him to the thriving in-home care industry and he found FirstLight Home Care to be a great fit.
As the economy forces people to consider and weigh all of the long-term care options available, Vincent intends to become a valuable resource for the elderly and others who might require assistance throughout the community. He’s looking forward to becoming a leader in non-medical care for the residents of the Main Line, PA.
It was almost in Melissa’s DNA to care for others. Her mother worked as a CNA throughout Melissa’s childhood and Melissa grew up in a multi-generational home where everyone looked after each other.
After relocating to New York in 2009 from Pennsylvania, she pursued her desire to work with the elderly as a recreational therapist in a nursing home setting, keeping residents involved and stimulated through daily activities and companionship. Wanting to continue to help serve the seniors in her community, Melissa joined FirstLight Home Care as a caregiver. She continued to find caring for others to be invigorating and fulfilling and cherished bringing joy and comfort into the lives of people who would otherwise be homebound.
Because Melissa showed herself to be such a dedicated part of the FirstLight family, whether it be as a caregiver or jumping in to help out in the office, she was the natural choice when the Scheduling Coordinator position became available. As her skill set and knowledge grew, she became an integral part of the Westchester office team.
As Melissa was making the decision to move home to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family, Vincent saw an opportunity to expand her role, as he was looking into other communities that could benefit from FirstLight’s Culture of Care. Melissa was invited to manage the Main Line Pennsylvania franchise as the Director of Operations.
With over 10 years of experience, she is well-equipped to help serve this local senior community.
Mary Pat Tanz, a life-long resident of Havertown, PA has spent over 20 years in the health care field as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. While working as a Practitioner, she felt a strong calling to care specifically for the elderly who required long term assistance.
Mary Pat engaged in a rewarding career, raised a family, and had the pleasure of caring for her mother as she aged through her golden years. It was at that time she learned that supportive care, even in the simplest of forms made it easier for her own mom to stay active and spend quality time with friends and family alike.
This calling to care for the elderly along with her interest in community affairs led her straight down a path that crossed with Vincent McMahon, Owner of FirstLight Home Care and Melissa LaSala, Director of Operations at FirstLight Home Care. As their Community Liaison, Mary Pat has pledged to share the FirstLight mission of care to the Main Line and surrounding neighborhoods. She looks forward to having the opportunity to be part of a team that will provide compassionate care to you or your loved ones.
