Wilbur, a proud U.S. Army veteran, devoted family man, and community member who
continues to leave a lasting mark at\u00a095 years young.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Drafted Into Service<\/strong>
Wilbur\u2019s military story began in\u00a01951,\u00a0at just\u00a020 years old\u00a0he was drafted into the Army
during the Korean War era. As an only child, leaving home was a major change, but
Wilbur stepped into his role with\u00a0resilience and determination. He served as a\u00a0tank
driver\u00a0from 1951 to 1953, gaining lessons that would shape his entire life. \u201cThe Army
chose me,\u201d he recalls, reflecting on how the experience transformed him.\u00a0\u201cIt saved my
life and taught me a lot of things my family couldn\u2019t.\u201d Mr. Wilbur has a message for the
next generation:\u00a0\u201cGo to the service, it will change your life.\u201d For the Current soldiers:
\u201cPay attention and stay in as long as you can.\u201d These messages are\u00a0simple yet have a
powerful and\u00a0significant meaning. While serving he learned the importance of\u00a0discipline,
perseverance, and teamwork, all of which\u00a0have guided Wilbur throughout his life. He
hopes to be remembered both as a\u00a0veteran\u00a0and as a\u00a0person who lived with purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Life Today<\/strong>
Now at\u00a095<\/strong> years old, Wilbur lives in\u00a0Melbourne, Florida<\/strong>, where he receives
compassionate care and support in his home from\u00a0FirstLight. FirstLight\u2019s caregivers
assist him with daily activities, ensuring his comfort, safety, and independence – so he
can focus on enjoying life and sharing his wisdom with family, friends, and the
community. One of the highlights of his days?\u00a0The delicious meals prepared by his
caregiver.\u00a0Wilbur has a\u00a0diverse appetite\u00a0and enjoys everything from\u00a0oxtail to pork
chops, meals that bring both comfort and joy.\u00a0Wilbur is also a\u00a0native of Alabama<\/strong>\u00a0and a
proud, die-hard\u00a0Alabama Crimson Tide fan. His \u201cRoll Tide\u201d spirit is strong, and he
never misses a chance to cheer on his team.\u00a0Looking ahead, Wilbur has his sights set
on his\u00a0100th birthday<\/strong>, a milestone he is eagerly anticipating. To celebrate,\u00a0Frank\u2019s
Family Barber Shop<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(2800 Aurora Rd, Ste B, Melbourne, FL 32935) has promised him
a\u00a0free haircut,\u00a0a gift he\u2019s patiently waiting for as he looks forward to the big day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
