{"id":1366,"date":"2017-08-24T17:08:06","date_gmt":"2017-08-24T17:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.firstlighthomecare.com\/home-healthcare-olympia\/?p=1366"},"modified":"2017-08-24T17:08:06","modified_gmt":"2017-08-24T17:08:06","slug":"firstlight-home-care-donates-meals-wheels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.firstlighthomecare.com\/home-healthcare-olympia\/2017\/08\/24\/firstlight-home-care-donates-meals-wheels\/","title":{"rendered":"FirstLight Home Care Donates to Meals on Wheels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.firstlighthomecare.com\/home-healthcare-olympia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/103\/2017\/09\/Meals-on-Wheels-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"197\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1367\" \/>We at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstlighthomecare.com\/home-healthcare-olympia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FirstLight Home Care \u2013 South Sound<\/a> were honored, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jeaseniorliving.com\/senior-living\/wa\/tumwater\/olympics-west-retirement-inn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Olympics West Retirement Inn<\/a>, to present a check for $350 today to the Meals on Wheels program at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southsoundseniors.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Senior Services for South Sound<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We raised the funds at Olympics West&#8217;s annual Antique and Classic Car Show earlier this month!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Meals on Wheels is a program that delivers meals to individuals at home who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals.\u00a0Meals on Wheels originated in the United Kingdom during the Blitz in World War II, when many people lost their homes and therefore the ability to cook their own food.\u00a0The first home-delivered meal program in the United States began in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in January 1954.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Meals on Wheels programs are generally operated at the county level or smaller. \u00a0Here in Thurston County, it&#8217;s administered by Senior Services for South Sound.<\/p>\n<p>Eligibility for home delivered meals is based on people who meet the criteria of being 60 or older, unable to cook for themselves, lack someone to cook for them, and confined to their home with the inability to get out on their own. \u00a0For more information on the local Meals on Wheels program, contact the Senior Services for South Sound Nutrition Coordinator at (360) 586-6181 x124 or nutritioncoordinator@southsoundseniors.org.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We at FirstLight Home Care \u2013 South Sound were honored, along with Olympics West Retirement Inn, to present a check for $350 today to the Meals on Wheels program at Senior Services for South Sound.
