Clarence Lyons, Owner/ Chief Relationship Manager

Clarence Lyons, Owner/ Chief Relationship Manager

Clarence Lyons is excited to be serving the Upstate community with quality, trustworthy, and dependable in-home care services. Prior to opening FirstLight, Clarence spent 20 years as an engineer in the power utility industry, working in various capacities from power plant commissioning to strategic generation and environmental planning. Mr. Lyons has seen the impact of quality care-giving on both sides. His mother, Melody Lyons, has worked over 20 years as a caregiver. He and his wife, Kia Lyons, relied on in-home care providers to provide companionship and support to her out of state grandmother. Those two perspectives drive Clarence’s desire to provide an enriching environment for those interested in serving others and ensure excellent care for those in his service.

Clarence and his wife, Kia, have one child, Lena Elise. Clarence enjoys running and hiking. One of his fondest memories is participating in a Ragnar relay and running slightly over 200 miles with his team members. Clarence is originally from Alabama but relocated to the Carolinas in 2010.

Kia Lyons, Owner/Community Relations Manager

Kia Lyons, Owner/Community Relations Manager

Kia Lyons serves as co-owner with her husband, Clarence Lyons, of FirstLight Home Care of Upstate South Carolina.  Before embarking on this journey, Kia managed gerontology medical research studies focused on macular degeneration in Birmingham, Alabama at The University of Alabama-Birmingham. After a holiday visit witnessing her grandmother have more challenges getting around and hearing her talk about worsening arthritis pains, Kia felt it was time to seek out in-home care for her grandmother to support her in her daily tasks.  Having a caregiver to provide the essential support and companionship that her grandmother needed to have a better quality of life really brought a sense of peace of mind. For Kia, the opportunity to provide that same level of care and concern that was afforded to her grandmother is a blessing.

In addition to her work at FirstLight Home Care, Kia successfully leads Popbar, a gelato and sorbet shop based in Charlotte, NC. Kia and her husband, Clarence, have one child, Lena Elise. Kia was active in the dance community throughout her high school and college career and still enjoys the fine art of dance.

Armetta Davis, Office Manager

Armetta Davis, Office Manager

Armetta Davis comes to FirstLight Home Care from the motion picture industry where she was an Animation Film Editor for over 25 years.  She has always had a love for people. When her father became ill with renal failure, she, her mother and her siblings became caregivers.  Seeing how difficult it was to manage care for her father (who lives out of state) and maintain her busy schedule, she felt helpless at times. The family hired a caregiver, who immediately took “the load off”.  While Armetta is geographically unable to be there to care for her father, she wants to help someone where she currently lives.  “If I can’t be there for my dad, I can be here for someone else’s”. When she was approached by FirstLight Home Care owners, Clarence and Kia Lyons, to be the Office Manager, she jumped at the opportunity.  For those who know Armetta, they feel this is her calling.

Armetta and her husband Larry together have 4 adult children and 3 grandchildren.  Her hobbies are gardening, walking, cooking, bike riding, dancing and travel. Music is essential in her life, as is her faith. Pasadena, California was home for Armetta before moving to Durham, and later Charlotte, NC in 2007.

Melody Lyons, Care Coordinator

Melody Lyons, Care Coordinator

Melody Lyons is our veteran caregiver on the FirstLight Home Care team, with over 20 years of experience, serving in both skilled nursing facilities and in-home care capacities. Melody is a native of Orlando, Florida and has felt the tug of care-giving for all of her life.  After raising two children, Melody continued her nursing education. Although she was admitted into the nursing program and began taking coursework, she did not complete her degree. Despite that setback, Melody continued to pursue her calling of care-giving, providing excellent care to her patients as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Melody has an extensive background in senior care, from coordination of activities for residents to specialized training in dementia and Alzheimer’s care. She was routinely recognized for her level of service and work ethic.  Melody looks forward to ensuring that FirstLight quickly becomes the employer of choice the best caregivers in the Upstate.

Melody is married to Clarence Lyons, Sr. and is the mother to 2 adult children and grandmother to 5 and great-grandmother to 3. She enjoys painting and traveling.

FirstLight Home Care of Upstate South Carolina provides caregiving services throughout six South Carolina counties – Chester, Cherokee, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union, and Winnsboro.
