FirstLight is About People
Home Care is Not a Career, It’s a Calling
We know your first priority when choosing a home care provider is finding someone you can trust and rely on… someone who will care for your loved one as you would, and as we would our own. We’ve been where you are, and this is one of the main reasons we chose to be in this business.
Bobby Scruggs: Co-Owner, President & General Manager of FirstLight Home Care of Austin
Bobby leads the business development and community relations of the agency. Prior to opening the FirstLight office, Bobby held a number of Sales Management, Customer Marketing and Business Development positions with Fortune 500 companies during his 30+ year career in corporate America. Bobby graduated from Ohio University with a BBA degree in Marketing. He always wanted to own his own business, so he founded Scruggs Family Holdings, Inc. in 2018 and it serves as the parent company of FirstLight Home Care of Austin.
His passion for the senior care industry began when his dad, Samuel Scruggs, Sr., was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2008. Living the experience of searching for the optimal care for his dad, he developed a keen interest in the health and well-being of seniors. He is now devoted to helping other families explore all of their options for senior care.
Bobby also volunteers with the Alzheimer’s Association-Capital of Texas Chapter and serves on the Board of Directors for the Austin Kappa Education and Leadership Foundation (AKELF) as its Treasurer. When he is not working, Bobby enjoys playing golf, traveling, and spending time with his wife of over 30 years, Michelle, and his two adult children, Ashley and Darien.
Bobby attributes his career success to living by this simple, but powerful operating philosophy:
“I believe that God will provide me with everything that I want in this life, if I’m willing to help others to get what they want.”
Michelle Scruggs: Co-Owner and Administrator for FirstLight Home Care of Austin.
Michelle Scruggs is Co-Owner and Administrator for FirstLight Home Care of Austin. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she aspired to a career in Education.
Prior to relocating to Austin, Michelle put her career on hold to become the primary caregiver for her Mom, Barbara Gollatte, for the final three years of her life. She was grateful to be able to stay at home with her Mom and support her when Barbara was in the most need. That experience along with Michelle’s innate compassion for others continues to drive her attentiveness with seniors.
In addition to her responsibilities as our Administrator, she oversees our FirstLight Caregiver Training curricula to ensure that our caregivers have all of the tools that they need to provide quality care to our clients.
Michelle is a Certified Ageless GraceFitness Educator in addition to her role as an 8th Grade Mathematics Inclusion teacher in the Austin Independent School District.
She has been married to her husband, Bobby, for over 30 years. She is the mother of two adult children, Ashley and Darien. In her spare time, she loves to read and is a gifted seamstress.
Ashley Walston: Care Coordinator for FirstLight Home Care of Austin
Ashley recently joined the FirstLight team as our Care Coordinator. In this role, Ashley is responsible for Caregiver recruitment, hiring, scheduling and training. She also serves as the Alternate Administrator in our Bee Caves Road office.
Prior to joining FirstLight Home Care, Ashley was a Life Enrichment Director at an Assisted Living & Memory Care community in the Bastrop area. In that role, she planned off-campus activities for the residents of the facility, increased resident socialization through a variety of fun, educational, and family-oriented events. Ashley also assisted with the facility’s marketing and outreach efforts.
Ashley has worked in Senior Care for almost 10 years and is truly dedicated to providing a superior level of care and quality of life for seniors. One of her passions is providing care and quality of life for those with memory deficits such as Alzheimer’s Disease. Ashley hopes to continue to build strong ties in the communities that we serve and help those in need.
