A Personalized, Engaging Approach to Dementia Care
For Any Stage of Dementia, Including Alzheimer’s Disease
Caring for a loved one with dementia has its challenges and without the right support, it is hard to provide the care they need. This is why we at FirstLight Home Care of Houston responded to these challenges by developing our unique, tailored Dementia Care Program aimed at helping both the dementia sufferer and their family cope with this progressive condition.
Person-First Dementia Care
FirstLight Home Care’s Dementia Care Program addresses the issues from a different perspective compared to many other providers of elderly care services in Houston, Bellaire, Pearland, and surrounding areas. We have adopted the personalized approach; structuring the dementia care plan around the person and not the disease. What is important to us as specialized home care providers is who they are as unique individuals.
For example, each client has a “Who I Am” booklet that is completed to provide more personalized information such as:
- What makes you laugh?
- What makes you happy?
- Feel accomplished?
- What distresses or frustrates you?
Questions like these help our trained caregivers provide home care assistance that is customized for each individual.
The goal of our person-centered approach to care is to ensure that our trained home caregivers have relevant information to construct a dementia care plan for Houston and Bellaire residents that is specific to their current abilities and stage of dementia. Family members are encouraged to be part of the planning and home caregiver selection processes. The use of client satisfaction surveys, client and caregiver focus groups, and advisory councils all play an integral role in monitoring, improving and evaluating each individualized plan for home care assistance, and ensures our program remains valid and reliable. In turn, the process provides you with peace-of-mind and confidence in our practices.
