FirstLight Home Care of Overland Park provides in-home senior care, personal care and companion care services. Personal care involves help with Activities of Daily Living, or ADL’s. These include help with mobility, personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, bathing, continence management or toileting and personal hygiene. Companion care aims at meeting social needs, and more basic household chores or duties. Household duties we can help with include cooking, baking, light housekeeping and laundry and other common household tasks. All caregiving services are available as both short-term home care and long-term home care, up to 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our caregiver services are available to any adult over the age of 18. Some of our more common client types include aging seniors, those with chronic health conditions, help recovering from surgery, physical rehabilitation, the physically disabled, special needs populations, new mothers and families who have a loved one actively deployed in the armed forces.
What Are the Advantages of In-Home Care vs. Assisted Living Facilities?
When In-Home Care is an option, it allows the individual to receive assistance so that they can remain safe, comfortable and independent in their own homes. Having a caregiver come to their home, allows them to retain personal schedules, and is less disruptive to routines, as these grow more sensitive with age. In turn, this option supports the persons emotional well-being, and allows for more personal freedom and independence which can result in a better quality of life.
There are some cases where families request a caregiver from FirstLight of Overland Park to come to a nursing home or a retirement home to offer extra company and help with tasks that may not be provided by these communities. These include cases where the community is unable to provide the one-on-one care required. We also can help with errands or provide personal transportation to medical appointments.
