The owner, John, was patient and kind when interacting with my mom to assess her needs for home health care. He really put her at ease and found a caregiver who was trustworthy, hard-working, and was able to start working with us very quickly. It was such a relief to find an agency that was responsive, professional, and able to get care in place so quickly. Everyone we interacted with at First Light was professional, attentive and responsive, just like John. They proactively checked in on mom’s care and discussed any changes as needed.

First Light is a top notch home care organization! We have been using Firstight for a few years now and I don’t know what we would have done without them. They take the stress out of managing private care by handling everything, being extremely responsive to our needs. They understand the hardships related to dementia and aging in general and are an excellent source of consult in tough situations. They understand what the your loved one may need sometimes even before you do, especially during stressful times. They manage everything with coverage and staff and are very responsive to any feedback we provide. John, you have been especially helpful to me over the many bumps of caring for my parents and I truly appreciate it.

Heather and Maria are so good to my dad and he definitely feels well taken care of and understood in their care. I am so grateful to have such amazing care givers for my dad, as I don’t hear this from others going through the same situation. They have been there for a long time now and I can tell they really care about my dad and go over and above to ensure he is happy and safe. It is a huge relief to to our entire family. We used FirstLight to care for my father 24/7 for about the last 9 months of his life. I cannot say enough good things about this agency. The caretakers that became “regulars” all went above and beyond to make my father comfortable, and to preserve as much of his dignity and independence as possible. The owner also went above and beyond to find the right match of caretaker for my father’s declining abilities (and sometimes combative behavior). Every member of the organization, from owner to scheduler to caretaker, was experienced, organized and above all, kind. There was so much trust going around! – we could trust them to handle so many situations, trust them to be on time , trust them to do handoffs between the day to night shifts – and my father learned to trust them as well. Don’t get me wrong – hiring full time caretakers is not easy! There were scheduling challenges, last minute substitutions if a caretaker was sick, and mostly challenges from the declining physical and mental health of my father. It takes time to build trust and learn a patient’s habits. But that is the nature of such care. Remember, these are not medical aides who can treat a wound or diagnose a disease. FirstLight was patient not only with my father but also with us, his family, as we went through this difficult time. We learned a lot from them. But the caretakers! The regulars were all VERY experienced. They each had their special talents – in addition to making sure he was clean, fed and comfortable in his senior living apartment, they helped us get him in and out of cars for doctor appointments or family visits, stayed with my father while he was in the hospital and advocated for his comfort, were creative in dealing with his frustrations and increasing mental disorientation, even helped to feed him when he had to switch to a special diet due to difficulty swallowing. They were our eyes and ears while we were working at our own jobs, telling us when physical therapists or nurses came by for treatments or checkups. We would not have known half of what was going on if they had not been there and been so competent about reporting back to us. But their warmth and kindness was the best talent of all. They always put the patient first. I felt that for many of them, this was a “calling” as well as a job. I don’t know how we would have managed without them. I highly recommend this agency!

Excellent caregivers who go out of their way to make the client comfortable in their own home.They treat each client individually and help with memory games such as puzzles etc.They make the client feel special and empowered by including them in daily decisions such as what to wear eat and do. They spend the entire shift focused on the client and their needs rather than some agencies that use the tv as a “babysitter”. I felt very comfortable and felt my family member was in capable,caring hands.I would highly recommend FirstLight as a choice for homecare.They are the best!
