This week FirstLight Home Care of Alameda had an opportunity to host an amazing event with many people in the senior care industry. We had a guest speaker Raenika Butler fromt he Alzheimer’s Association, come speak to the group about the amazing resources that the Alzheimer’s Associaton offers. The Alzheimer’s Association is a prominent organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Here are some key resources they offer to help seniors:Here is a recap of the takeaways that I gathered from her presentation.
- Information and Education: The Alzheimer’s Association provides comprehensive information about Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and related conditions. This includes understanding symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, and caregiving strategies. Seniors and their families can access this information through their website, informational materials, and workshops
- Support Groups: They offer both in-person and online support groups for individuals with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. These groups provide a safe space for sharing experiences, learning coping strategies, and receiving emotional support.
- Helpline: The Alzheimer’s Association operates a 24/7 Helpline (1-800-272-3900) staffed by trained professionals who can provide information, support, and referrals to local resources. Seniors and their caregivers can call this number to get help navigating the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease.
- Care Consultation: The Association provides personalized care consultation services. These consultations can help seniors and their families develop care plans, find local resources, and address specific challenges related to Alzheimer’s disease.
- Safety Programs: They offer safety programs such as MedicAlert® + Alzheimer’s Association Safe Return®. This program provides identification products, enrollment in a national database, and assistance with locating individuals who wander and become lost.
- Research Funding and Advocacy: The Alzheimer’s Association is a major funder of Alzheimer’s research and advocates for policies that support research funding, early detection, and improved care for seniors with Alzheimer’s disease.
- Educational Events: They organize educational events and conferences aimed at seniors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and the general public. These events cover a wide range of topics related to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia care.
Overall, the Alzheimer’s Association plays a crucial role in providing resources, support, and advocacy for seniors affected by Alzheimer’s disease and their families. Their services are designed to enhance quality of life, promote awareness, and advance research efforts toward finding a cure. At FirstLight Home Care of Alameda we are a proud supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association and will be particpating in the run in October to help support the cause and research for Alzheimer’s. Our team would love any and all support. Please call us at 510-954-3878 if you want to know any additional information on Alzheimer’s or dementia resources.
