FirstLight Home Care in Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina is Now a Parkinson’s Foundation Community Partner

A milestone that means better care for every Parkinson’s client we serve in Wake County.

We have exciting news to share.

FirstLight Home Care of Apex is proud to announce that we are now an official Parkinson’s Foundation Community Partner — a national designation that reflects our deep commitment to providing the highest standard of care for seniors living with Parkinson’s disease in Cary, Apex, Raleigh, Morrisville, Durham, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Garner and throughout Wake County.

This is more than an achievement for our organization. It’s a promise to every client, family member, and physician in our community: when it comes to Parkinson’s care, we are trained, equipped, and ready.

What Is the Parkinson’s Foundation Community Partners Program?

The Community Partners in Parkinson’s Care program is a national initiative of the Parkinson’s Foundation designed to educate and prepare care staff at home care agencies and senior living communities to provide the best possible support for people living with Parkinson’s disease (PD).

The program is built on a simple but powerful belief: the people on the front lines of daily Parkinson’s care — caregivers in the home — deserve expert-level training, practical tools, and ongoing support to do their jobs with confidence and compassion.

Through this partnership, our caregiving team gains access to the Parkinson’s Foundation Care Staff Curriculum, a proprietary training program developed by leading Parkinson’s specialists and focused on the real, day-to-day realities of caring for someone with PD.

What Our Team Is Trained On

The Parkinson’s Foundation curriculum equips our caregivers with practical, evidence-based strategies in three critical areas:

Medication Timing In Parkinson’s disease, medication timing isn’t just a preference — it’s essential to symptom control. Our caregivers understand why staying on schedule matters and how to support clients in following their prescribed regimen.

Mobility Support Falls are one of the most serious risks for people with Parkinson’s. Our team is trained in safe, effective movement strategies that help clients stay mobile and reduce fall risk in the home environment.

Patience and Understanding Parkinson’s affects far more than movement. It can impact speech, mood, cognitive function, and emotional wellbeing. Our caregivers are trained to respond with empathy, calm, and dignity — meeting each client exactly where they are in their Parkinson’s journey.

What This Partnership Means for Wake County Families

Earning this designation means that when you choose FirstLight Home Care of Apex for a loved one with Parkinson’s, you are choosing a team that has been formally trained and recognized by the nation’s leading Parkinson’s organization.

It also means:

  • We are listed on the Parkinson’s Foundation website as a trusted care provider in our area
  • We are referred to families through the Foundation’s national Helpline (1-800-4PD-INFO)
  • We have access to ongoing education and collaboration with Parkinson’s specialists across disciplines
  • We are connected to local Parkinson’s Foundation events, including Moving Day, A Walk for Parkinson’s, giving us the ability to stay closely tied to the broader PD community right here in the Triangle

Our Commitment to the Parkinson’s Community

At FirstLight Home Care of Apex, we have always believed that great care requires more than good intentions — it requires knowledge, preparation, and a genuine passion for making a difference. Becoming a Parkinson’s Foundation Community Partner is a natural extension of that belief.

Parkinson’s disease affects more than one million Americans, and Wake County is home to thousands of seniors and families navigating this diagnosis right now. They deserve care providers who are not just compassionate, but truly prepared.

We are honored to meet that standard.
