Home care prices: What can I expect for the price?

Finding information about home care prices: Why is it so hard to get and trust a price?

Home care prices can be scary and mysterious. Have you ever received an ad claiming a sale price on an item and then when you get there, you find out that you need to purchase other, additional items to get the deal? This is called a “misleading marketing tactic” and it, unfortunately, exists in homecare too when many consumers are most vulnerable dealing with a family crisis.

In homecare or more specifically, Non-Medical Homecare, there are some pitfalls and terms that you should be familiar with in order to have a successful journey in navigating the elder care options that may be available to you and your family. For instance, you may not know that, by law, you have a choice in who can provide your home care at home after a stay at the hospital as it is common for folks to assume that the hospital will make that decision for you.  Ask your social worker for options on who she has worked well with and who might be more local, which means that their staff is likely to live in your community and might even be your neighbor.
Home care prices: Informations series
This post is the first of a series designed to educate the consumer on everything she needs to know about what homecare is, whether it is right for you, and how much it really costs compared to other options you may be looking at e.g. Assisted Living.
Price is certainly a strong consideration for many consumers and there are some folks that will shop on price alone without consideration for value.  It is our hope to demystify the world of non-medical home care and lead you to the most appropriate solution for your family in the shortest time possible.
For instance, it is not unusual for home care agencies to offer two price points. The first level will likely be for “Companion Care” and second level will be for “Personal Care” and the price can range as much as $2.00/hour based on the actual needs of the patient.
