With the arrival of November, FirstLight Home Care proudly takes part in the nationwide recognition of National Home Care and Hospice Month. This observance shines a light on the dedicated individuals and teams who provide compassionate care and dignity, and to people and families in their homes during life’s most important moments.
Why this month matters
Home care and hospice go far beyond providing care at home. They honor a person’s dignity, offer choice in how they receive support, and allow individuals to remain safely and comfortably where they feel most at ease. National Home Care and Hospice Month serves to raise awareness of these critical services, acknowledge the incredible workforce behind them, and promote continued investment and resources for these programs.
The scope of home care & hospice
While home care and hospice share a common setting, they meet different needs along the care continuum:
- Home Care or In-Home Care (that’s us!): Services may include personal assistance with everyday activities (bathing/personal hygiene, walking, transferring, continence and toileting care, eating assistance), companionship, meal preparation, assistance with medication, and more. The focus is on enhancing quality of life, supporting independence, and enabling individuals to remain in the place they call “home” instead of going to into facilities.
- Hospice Care: When treatment is no longer the main focus, hospice care steps in to provide comfort, manage symptoms, and offer emotional and spiritual support to individuals and their families during life’s final stages. This type of care honors a person’s wishes, their home, and the relationships that matter most.
Family. Home. Dignity.
Home isn’t just a “place.” Home is where memories are made, routines are familiar, and where people feel most comfortable. Home care and hospice services allow individuals to stay in the environment they feel most at peace. That choice matters. We are honored to be part of that journey.
Getting Involved
- If you’re a caregiver or team member – Our caregivers are at the very center of our business and our culture of care. We are truly grateful for all that you do! Your dedication and hard work makes a difference everyday.
- If you’re a family member or friend of someone receiving home care or hospice – Supporting someone at home is not easy. Even a little help or a kind moment makes a difference. Home care can provide extra assistance and peace of mind.
- If you or a loved one are exploring options – This month is a good time to educate yourself: learn about home care, hospice care, what services are available, and how they may support your needs.
- If you’re part of this community – Volunteer with a local hospice or connect with a local church to help seniors in the community.
As our communities grow and change, the role of home care and hospice becomes even more crucial. At FirstLight, we’re dedicated to supporting families through every stage of life with care, respect, and understanding. This month, we honor the workers who dedicate their lives to turn a home into a place of comfort, safety, and love!
