Summer Fun: Senior Discounts and Things to Do Around Tampa Bay

When temperatures climb during the summer and the heat index hits triple digits, staying cool becomes a top priority (especially for seniors). However, beating the heat doesn’t have to mean staying stuck at home all summer! From museums and movie theaters to community programs, there are many fun and engaging activities for seniors to do around the Tampa Bay Area.

Here are some great things to do this summer without breaking the bank (or a sweat!):

Entertainment & Attractions

1. Tampa Bay CityPASS – CityPASS is a discounted Tampa Bay experience offered for everyone of all ages. For $149.95, you get a one-time admission to your choice of 5 attractions. Some of these attractions include The Florida Aquarium, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, ZooTampa, and Museum of Science and Industry. There are also outdoor options such as a boat tour or Busch Gardens, which can be enjoyed later in the evening when temperatures cool down a bit as well. 2. AMC Movie Theaters – Seniors can enjoy a discount on all movies at participating AMC Theaters in the Tampa Bay Area every single day. For even more of a discount, earlier showtimes offer even cheaper tickets on top of the senior discount. It is an affordable (and air-conditioned) way to get out of the house for a few hours and enjoy the latest films.
3. Art Museums – The Tampa Bay Area has several art museums that offer senior discounts on both sides of the bridge. The Tampa Museum of Art has a fee of $15 for seniors and is in downtown Tampa area. If you prefer St. Pete area, the popular Dali Museum is a great option. Both museums are right next to the water as well as several shops and restaurants. A perfect way to spend the day!

Retail & Shopping

1. Kohl’s – Adults age 60 and older receive 15% off in-store purchases every Wednesday
2. Goodwill – One day a week, usually on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, shoppers 55 and older can be eligible for 10-30% off in-store purchases, depending on the location.
3. Ross Dress for Less – 10% off on Tuesdays for shoppers 55 and up.
4. Walgreens – Shoppers 55 and up can enjoy a 20% off discount on the first Tuesday of each month.
5. TJ Maxx- Select stores in Florida offer 10% off on Mondays for shoppers 55 and older.

There are surely many other stores that offer a senior discount that didn’t make this list. It doesn’t hurt to always ask at checkout if a store gives a senior discount. Also, things are always changing so be sure to check with the stores listed above to confirm that the discounts are still valid.

Recreation Centers

Recreation centers offer seniors an affordable way to stay active and socialize, all while staying indoors and cool during the hottest months. Many of these centers offer all kinds of activities: fitness classes, arts and crafts classes, game days, work shops, and more. Another great thing about them is that there are several different locations around each county so there’s sure to be one close-by to your home!

Some are specifically for seniors and others are for everyone in the community to enjoy!
