When you think of a herd of cows, you probably picture quiet pastures, slow afternoons, and gentle eyes. But there is something far deeper beneath that peaceful surface: cows have remarkable, long-term memories. They recognize familiar faces across years, remember specific places, and form deep, enduring bonds with their herd. Memory defines their world.
That strength is the inspiration behind Cows of Hope, the FirstLight HomeCare team walking in this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
For the families we serve every day at FirstLight, Alzheimer’s and dementia try to take those very things away—the familiar faces, the cherished places, and the shared bonds. But while memory may fade, love and connection do not. We are stepping up to the start line to honor the memories our clients have lost, protect the memories of future generations, and support the families walking this journey right now.
Why We Walk
As home care providers, we witness the daily reality of dementia firsthand. We see the struggles, but we also see the quiet moments of joy, the spark of recognition, and the incredible resilience of family caregivers. Walking isn’t just a fundraiser for us; it’s a promise.
- To Advance Research: Every step helps fund critical research toward better treatments, early detection, and an eventual cure.
- To Support Families: The funds raised ensure that local support programs and resources remain available to caregivers who need a guiding hand.
- To Stand Together: No one should have to navigate a dementia diagnosis alone. Walking as a team shows our community that we are in this together.
Join the Herd
The Walk is October 3rd at UNC. We need every bit of support to make a lasting impact. Whether you walk alongside us, share our mission, or make a donation to the team, you are helping us fight for a world without Alzheimer’s.
Let’s gather our strength, honor every memory, and bring hope to the path ahead.
