In this mobile society, we often find our friends and family members living far away, making it harder to stay connected. But with a little effort, you can fortify your social network by reaching out to others. Here are tips 3 and 4 :
- Take walks through your neighborhood – great way to meet your neighbors.
- Visit your local library – volunteer to read to children or help with literacy program There are benefits to having good connections to family and friends, such as adecrease in the likelihood of depression, and a decrease in elevated blood pressure during stressful events. Frequently, our in-home clients and their families tell us that activities such as taking walks in their neighborhoods, and helping children learn to read or volunteering in their library’s literacy program helps them to better function and maintain a positive outlook.
