Tips to keep you and your home cooler through the hottest months –
For you –
• Always stay well-hydrated – drink lots of water – avoid alcoholic beverages.
• Wear a hat, sunglasses and sunblock when going out in the sun.
• Take your walks in the early morning or late evenings.
• Avoid strenuous tasks during the heat of the day.
• Placing an icepack around your neck can bring your temperature down quickly.
• Buy a plastic child’s pool and enjoy cooling off your feet.
• Avoid large meals – eat salads and smaller cold meals.
• Take a cool shower when the heat becomes too uncomfortable.

For your home –
• Open your windows during the cool hours of the day.
• Placing a fan near a window on the shady side of the house, it is more effective.
• Avoid opening the refrigerator door too often– this can heat up your kitchen.
• Close drapes, curtains, windows, doors and shades before the day becomes too hot.
• Hang clothes on a line instead of using your dryer.
• Avoid using your oven, especially mid-day.
• Close off any unused rooms – will save on air conditioner usage.
If you become disoriented, confused or listless, call 911.
