Personalized Grand Strand Dementia Care Services
For Any Stage of Dementia, Including Alzheimer’s Disease
At FirstLight we have a saying, “If you have met one person with dementia, you’ve only met one person.” That is to say that each individual who has entered a stage of dementia will talk, act, remember, and behave differently, than another person who has entered a stage of dementia, even if it is at a similiar stage of development. We firmly believe our patients will always be who they are, no matter what stage of dementia they may be in.
Person-First Dementia Care
That’s why FirstLight has developed its unique Dementia Care Program in which we build our care of the individual around who that person was and still is, not just by the disease itself. We take a personalized and engaging approach to dementia and Alzheimer’s care with our clients. Our goal is always to make sure those affected by this disease live the rest of their lives with purpose.
We provide all of our clients with a booklet entitled, “Who I Am”, which is completed by the patient in order to answer questions much deeper than their basic history. We ask the client the following questions to gain a more thorough understanding of them, questions such as:
- What makes you happy?
- What makes you laugh?
- What makes you feel accomplished?
- What distresses or frustrates you?
Care Coordinators and Caregivers then use this information to build a specific and individualized dementia care plan for your loved one’s daily care.
We strive to set ourselves apart from other dementia care and Alzheimer’s care companies in Myrtle Beach by providing a rigorous caregiver selection process. We provide our caregivers with on-going training and one-on-one consultations with clients. We not only implement this plan throughout our culture of care, but we continue to evaluate its effectiveness with our:
- Client Satisfaction Surveys
- Client and Caregiver Focus Groups
- Advisory Councils
