We first started working with FirstLight in August 2025 when my mother needed respite care as the full-time caregiver for my father (mobility issues and dementia). We enjoyed meeting Mac and learning about FirstLight and then the whole Care team. Camila started providing four hours of respite care on Wednesday afternoons so that my mother could run errands and socialize with friends without the stress and anxiety of leaving my father alone. We’ve recently had to increase the support and services we need from FirstLight after my father went into the hospital in February 2026. Because of the caregiving from FirstLight, we were able to bring my dad home instead of having him discharged into a skilled nursing facility. We would not have been able to meet his wishes without the support provided by FirstLight. Julie (San Mateo), our care manager, schedules caregivers, communicates constantly, and responds immediately to text messages. The caregivers themselves have been absolutely amazing (Camila, Michael, Christopher, Bernardo and others). While they are providing non-medical services, several have medical backgrounds or are pursuing advanced degrees and certifications. They are skillful, professional and compassionate and are helping us learn how to take care of my dad at home. They also provide support for my mother and our family as we take this journey. FirstLight is enabling our participation in the Medicare GUIDE program to offer virtual nursing support for dementia patients and caregivers. I am so grateful to have access to FirstLight as a resource. They were recommended to me by a friend who works for them in the Boston area. The San Mateo team has been outstanding. I highly recommend them.
My wife required 24-hour caregivers after an extended hospital stay and, based on our own research and the recommendations from several colleagues, we selected FirstLight Home Care of the Peninsula. Everything about their care and support was top-notch. Their care supervisor Rommel assembled an excellent team that then supported my wife for the next six-plus weeks. We were consistently impressed by the caregivers’ compassion, professionalism, and the care they rendered.

The Care Manager Julie San Mateo has built a wonderful team of caregivers for my husband. They are kind and very attentive to his needs and keep me updated on how he is doing. I appreciate all the communication regarding schedules so I know who is on duty when. Very happy with the service !
My father (who has dementia) has been taken care of by a stream of wonderful caregivers from FirstLight! Each one of them — and he has several on rotation due to his schedule and his needs — cares for him as if he is their family. Carmen Alvior especially goes WAY over and above to make sure my father is always clean, rested, protected, and makes sure his apartment is clean and tidy. She stays by his side and he relies completely on her and trusts her. She keeps me constantly updated on my dad throughout the day and always finds solutions to whatever problem comes about! Julie San Mateo is his case manager and makes sure everything is on schedule and everyone is 100% aware of all appointments and have all the pertinent details of the day, as there are so many when caring for seniors! She is top notch in communication! Highly recommend using this company!

I recently used FirstLight Home Care of San Francisco and The Peninsula for in-home assistance following surgery, and I couldn’t have asked for better care. Armi and Maria were exceptional—compassionate, attentive, and highly professional. They made a difficult recovery period so much more manageable, always arriving on time and offering support that was both practical and genuinely kind.
Both caregivers went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and well cared for. They anticipated my needs, respected my space, and brought a calm, reassuring presence into my home each day. Their care made a real difference in my recovery, and I’m deeply grateful.

My father needed day and night health care after a fall. The team at First Light Home Care supported us with incredible care and immediate response. The people they sent to us were kind, compassionate and really cared for my dad as if he was family. In my mind, there is no better organization for home health care.

I love First Light Home Care! They took real good care of my mother, I was able to keep her at home (not send her to a facility), and they were here to help me take care of her, day or night whatever the situation this agency can do it. I knew when I had to go somewhere for the day or out with my family at night, that she was 100% safe and taken care of. They know what to do in any situation. I didn’t have to worry about anything. Thank you so much for your professionalism and kindness with my mother.
Arni and Maria at First Light were wonderful. Arni was great about going above and beyond, making sure I felt cared for and even came with Maria the first time she came to help me during my surgery recovery away from home. Maria was awesome. She arrived each time sweet and eager to help me with with everything and was great company during a difficult recovery. I had a wonderful getting to know her. Thanks to Arni and Maria I didn’t feel scared and alone but instead cared for and cared about. They are fantastic!!!
I’ve had Maria Acosta assist me with a few Dr. appointments now, and she has been extremely helpful, and gone above and beyond typical caregiver services. My case is difficult since I need to be picked up, driven, and assisted during appointments, since my mobility is very limited. Maria helped with all tasks and also communicated with my son to make sure we received all the doctor’s instructions. I would highly recommend Maria and First Light for helpful assistance.
Yesterday, we had our first experience with first light on the initial Evaluation of assessing our 81 yr old aunt for home health care including bathing assistance. To say our aunt was reluctant and a little scared is an understatement. Vanessa and Natalie did the assessment and by the time they left her home, our aunt was surprisingly onboard. Today, Natalie came with the first aide appointment with Kayley. Our aunt was again reluctant but Natalie was incredible as she explained the process to allow Kayley to assist her with a shower. These three individuals were unbelievable with the compassion and by the time they left our aunt loved them and the service they provided. Natalie was a consummate professional and made a list of items for us to purchase to make life more comfortable our aunt. Working in hospital administration for almost four decades, I highly recommend FirstLight and their professional and personable staff!!! Natalie and Kayley are first class! We are so grateful for both of them.

I had a wonderful experience using FirstLight! I was visiting from out of town for a medical procedure and had no way of getting back to my hotel after general anesthesia, and my surgeon’s office connected me with FirstLight. Haphi quickly got in touch with me after receiving my referral and got everything set up for the day of my procedure. When I was discharged, my caregiver Ernie was outside and waiting for me, and he safely got me back to my hotel and ensured I was safely situated. Ernie is such a nice guy! If you’re ever in a bind and need similar services, I highly recommend FirstLight!

Excellent care provided! First and foremost, the individual caregivers have been compassionate, thoughtful and consistent. The care team communication is another strength of this agency. Online texting with the manager and team has made any changes in scheduling caregiver hours easy and nearly immediate.
FirstLight Home Care gives excellent service. First of all, Julie San Mateo is very responsive, prompt, friendly and efficient. She is truly customer oriented! Secondly, the caregiver, Olga, was prompt, in fact five minutes early, which we greatly appreciated. She was friendly, understanding, and patient. My 96 year old aunt liked her very much. Recently my husband returned home from skilled nursing after two foot surgeries. It was recommended we get home care for him. The facility recommended was First Light Home Care. We are currently two weeks in and I couldn’t be more pleased. We have had different caregivers depending on the day of the week. Santa, Maria, Chermane, and Joy have all been terrific. They are friendly and caring and have been so very helpful. Besides taking care of my husband, they have all helped out with household duties which gave me a break. If you ever find yourself in need of a caregiver I highly recommend First Light.

We were very pleased with FirstLight Home Care. Jacob provided excellent customer service — He listened to our needs and provided a very professional caregiver, Annie, who was a great match for my mother’s needs. Our caregiver supported my mother’s rehabilitation after hip surgery, helping her get back to independence. Whenever our caregiver couldn’t make it, Jacob ensured we had a replacement. Our caretaker Maria Acosta was very warm and friendly. She really perked up our dear friend who was at the end stage of life. Maria knew a little bit of German and said a few phrases to our friend who is German. It really put a smile on her face and we can tell she really liked Maria. Overall great experience and very friendly, warm and understanding service.
FIrstLight Home care is a top notch agency with a high standard of care. They employ professional caretakers who offer consistency of service with big hearts. For the last 2 months they provided ongoing care for our ailing parent whose needs changed rapidly. Their management team was responsive and helped us to anticipate what was coming on the horizon. Their staffing team worked tirelessly to meet our needs. The aids they provided showed up day after day, on time, with a smile and willingness to serve the needs of our mother and to support us as a family. They knew how to tend to her many conditions, kept us abreast of any worrisome changes, and most importantly cared for her with respect and compassion. They were a trusted, integral part of the final weeks of our mother’s life. We couldn’t have made it through this chapter without them.

When we visit, Roseanna is busy and professional, and the proof is in how clean the house is and what my mother says on Roseanna’s days off. Added bonus are management. Both the previous and current directors – were/are professional, responsive, and kind. The current director, Jules San Mateo, and another cg, Eduardo, helped the family seamlessly resolve a dilemma that involved extra cg hours and driving, without much notice!
