Scot Kuratsu, Simi Valley Owner
Scot Kuratsu had the distinct honor of being able to care for both his father and father-in-law at the end of their respective lives. After seeing what both men went through in various facilities, Scot and his family made the decision to make the remaining days of their lives as comfortable as possible by providing the love, dignity, and care in the most familiar and safest place for them…home.

Kayla Smith - Office Manager
Hailing from La Crescenta, California, Kayla Smith brings over 15 years of heartfelt caregiving experience to FirstLight Home Care. With a background spanning senior living facilities, private care environments, and home care, Kayla has been with FirstLight since day one. Today, she serves as the Office Manager and leads the Human Resources department, bringing the same warmth and dedication to her leadership role as she does to client care.
What Kayla loves most about caregiving is the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and deliver the high-quality care they deserve. One of her most unforgettable moments? A retired jazz musician she once cared for requested that she “jazz dance” into his room every day—proof that her compassionate care often comes with a joyful twist.
Outside of work, Kayla is an animal lover with two cats and a dog. She enjoys spending time with her family, baking delicious treats, making art, and tackling fun DIY projects.

Alexandra Cervantes - Intake Coordinator
Originally from Simi Valley in Ventura County, Alexandra—known to most as Alex—has been a dedicated caregiver since 2017. Her journey began at a senior assisted living facility in Thousand Oaks, where she discovered her passion for supporting others. In September 2024, Alex joined the team at FirstLight Home Care as a caregiver. Just a few months later, in December, her commitment and compassion led her to transition into the role of Intake Coordinator. She continues to step in and provide direct care when needed, ensuring that no client ever goes without the support they deserve.
What Alex loves most about caregiving is the joy of helping others—seeing someone happy, comfortable, and well-cared for is what drives her every day.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending quality time with her family, cooking up delicious meals, shopping, and unwinding with video games. A fun fact? She once tried her hand at extreme couponing, inspired by the TLC show! Her favorite comfort food is pot roast with mashed potatoes, and she has a soft spot for strawberry ice cream.

Alicia Pina - Business Liaison
Originally from Orange County, California, Alicia Pina has been a devoted caregiver for the past eight years. Prior to her caregiving career, Alicia spent 20 years as a professional makeup artist. Though she thrived in the creative industry, she eventually felt the pull toward a more purposeful path—one where she could make a meaningful impact in people’s lives. That calling led her to caregiving.
Alicia began her journey with FirstLight Home Care as a caregiver, quickly becoming known for her compassionate spirit and ability to form deep connections with clients. As her passion and dedication grew, so did her role within the company. Today, she serves as the Business Liaison, where she plays a key part in marketing and recruiting, helping to build strong community relationships and bring in talented, caring team members.
What Alicia loves most about her work is the opportunity to truly be there for others—whether it’s through direct care, connecting with families, or supporting the growth of the caregiving team.
Outside of work, she still embraces her creative roots and enjoys spending time with family, trying new recipes, and staying engaged in her community.
