FirstLight Home Care of the Cumberlands is co-owned by Justin and Bronwyn and Travis and Nicole. Our owners have been in the home care business for two generations and are proud to be Veteran owned. Generational experience along with a variety of healthcare experience make our owners unique to the home care industry. While working in healthcare each day, they have seen firsthand the value home care can bring to a senior who wants to age in the comfort of their own home, safely.

Lee Shepherd, Administrative Director

Lee was born in Lexington and grew up in Louisville. He graduated from the University of Kentucky where he met his wife of 25 years, Kara. They have four incredible children, Kiley, Laurel, Spencer, and Liam. Lee was in pastoral ministry for thirteen years where he enjoyed serving in jails, prisons, and nursing homes. Most recently he worked with mentally and physically challenged individuals in their day-to-day care. Lee loves hiking, reading, and spending time with his family.

Michele Estes, Care Coordinator

With more than 22 years of experience in the caregiving field, Michele Estes has dedicated her career to others with compassion and respect. At Firstlight Home Care of Lexington, Michele serves as a Care Coordinator, helping connect elderly clients and veterans with the caregivers who can best meet their individual needs.

Michele’s journey in care began at just 18 years old, when she became a residential provider for adults with intellectual disabilities. Over the years, she went on to manage a residential care program serving adults with intellectual disabilities, developing deep expertise in person-centered support and program coordination.

Known for her warmth, reliability, and commitment to helping others live with dignity and independence, Michele continues to make a positive difference in the lives of the individuals and families she serves everyday.

Kim Dowden, Client and Community Liaison

With a deep passion for helping others, Kim has spent her career supporting elderly clients in a meaningful way. As a Care Coordinator at First Light Home Care, she works to ensure each client receives the best care possible, drawing from my experience as a caregiver with the company. Her dedication to the client care goes beyond the job- it’s a calling she has found in helping those in need, and it’s what drives her every day.

Outside of work, Kim stays busy with hobbies that keep my hands active-crocheting, quilting, and putting together puzzles. These creative outlets are her way of unwinding and connecting with the world around her. Kim is also a proud mother of five wonderful children and the grandmother to eight cherished grandkids, who bring joy and meaning to my life.
