Ke Ao Mālama (Realm of Care)

The Hawaiian word ao (first light of day), is a time filled with light and new opportunities.

Local owners of FirstLight Home Care of Honolulu, Lauri and Scott Topping, are passionate to serve their community with home care and caregiver services and help every one of their employees and clients live life to the fullest.

FirstLight provides non-medical home care in Honolulu for elders, people with disabilities, those recovering from illness, injury or surgery, mothers just home from the hospital, veterans, and anyone who needs some extra help.  Whether it’s in home, hospital or healthcare settings, our companion and personal care services cover everything from assistance with household tasks to help with individual needs like bathing assistance and hygiene. FirstLight Home Care can also help minimize the burden of managing errands in Honolulu, transportation and paperwork. Or, we can just provide good company or help to enjoy a hobby.

Our people are extraordinary. We build our team with those who have been there and seek intangibles – empathy, compassion, optimism, that cannot be taught. Our caregivers are extensions of your ʻohana who can start providing greater peace of mind.

Extraordinary People. Exceptional Care.

Culture of Care

Our Culture of Care philosophy is the cornerstone of FirstLight Home Care.  It embodies the beliefs and values which guide us daily as we serve others.  Among our values is this promise to our employees and our clients:

“At FirstLight Home Care, the genuine health and well-being of others is our greatest concern.  We vow to provide first-class personal service for our clients so they may enjoy the warmth, independence and relaxed comfort of their home.”

In the Hawaiian culture, mālama (caring for others) represents a very important value.  More deeply, mālama means support, loyalty, and to serve and honor others.  At this level, our clients and Poʻe mālama (caregivers) build strong and healthy bonds.

We believe a strong culture enables a healthy environment where employees can grow and thrive as ʻohana.  We seek extraordinary caregivers who understand our work is not a job, but a calling.  With this mindset, motivation comes from the heart.

We firmly believe that our employees should be put first along with our clients.  When employees are well cared for, they, in turn, are inspired to provide exceptional care to our clients.
