We hired FirstLight to assist my mom who has some cognitive issues. She had foot surgery and was in a wheelchair so she needed 24hr care. I contacted the company and explained our needs, they immediately assigned a coordinator, Joyce, who helped coordinate care for the month. She stayed in contact with me and provided an updated schedule of the caregivers assigned daily. The caregivers assigned to my mom were very caring and patient with her. We definitely appreciated all the assistance.
Loved the services of First Light Home Care of Pasadena. Joyce, my care manager, was amazing! Could call or text for her help any time of day. If she was busy at the moment she responded rapidly. Always very friendly, greeted me by name, and very accommodating.The caregivers were empathetic, energetic, pleasant to be with. Helped me with things I could not do after injuries & suggested/ helped with things they anticipated I needed. I was so comfortable having them in my home. We are new to having caregivers and are thankful to have found First Light. We interviewed with Jacquelyn before our dad was discharged from rehab after a fall and was thankful for her assessment of what was needed to care for our elderly father at our home who now requires constant supervision.
The first weeks we had different caregivers come so that we can assess which caregivers were a good fit for us. Now, it’s been 5 months since we began with First Light, and we love every one of our caregivers who have been with us since the beginning. They are sensitive to dad’s needs, as well as ours. Special shout out to our caregivers Oscar, Cathy and Wendy who are like family to us. We truly do not know what we’d do without them.
Joyce, the coordinator of our caregivers, is always responsive, to address issues that come up, or when we need to make changes to the schedule. We are thankful for the flexibility to do so. I have recommended First Light Home Care to friends who have asked about our experience. We feel very blessed to be working with First Light Home care who are not just taking care of dad, but also our family.

FirstLight Home Care has served our mother’s caregiver needs to perfection. We have an 85-year-old mom who has been recuperating from a brain and back injury due to a late night fall. She has recovered quickly from a lifetime of good health, but we needed a set of caregivers to be around during this rehab phase. What I appreciated right away about FirstLight is their immediate availability, reliable communication and flexibility to our specific schedule which is always changing. Our scheduler, Joyce, has been an efficient and quick communicator; she has accommodated us for every request, and always gets it correct, even and especially with our numerous last minute changes. Our mother loves and is quite fond of the caregivers. They are prompt, reliable, warm and ready to help with whatever she needs, including taking her out for walks in the neighborhood and even going along to supervise as she does some very limited driving of her car. What I think she appreciates most is their respect for her often-needed downtime while they’re in her home, she is able to get a lot of rest. My mom has grown quite comfortable with both Tina and Lorena in the home. I am very grateful for FirstLight’s absolute contribution to mom’s assured road to recovery.
The care coordinator Joyce has been fabulous in making sure my Dad has the right caregiver coverage each day. When there are questions she is very quick to respond and helpful. 2 of the caregivers have been truly outstanding- Marian made Dad feel comfortable from Day 1! She had him engaged enjoying the activities she developed for him incorporating the exercises he needed to do each day. FirstLight Home Care has been a savior for me as I needed part-time caregiving for my elderly mother. Joyce was fantastic at getting my mom set-up for care and pleasant and professional to speak with. She always keeps me informed in case there needs to be a substitute for Veronica who we just love. Joyce has been a blessing to us, she’s very accommodating and goes out of her way to make sure we’re happy. Their caregivers are always on time and super helpful from assisting with her personal care to light cleaning. I would recommend FirstLight, I’m very happy and so is mom.
My dad had a bleeding stroke on January 8th and he was discharged from the hospital on January 29. He is an international traveler without any commercial insurance, so there is no nursing home or rehab that we can afford, with only Medi-Cal.
When we were still in the hospital, the case manager brought me the brochure of FirstLight Care Home of Pasadena and I tried to contact the director Jacqueline Burnson. She visited me in the hospital the second day that I called, talked with me about all the details, gave me the estimate and some useful suggestions and collected all the information that they need.
Before the day that we discharged, I called her again. She responded with care coordinator info pretty quick. Then I called Joyce, the care coordinator, to set up service time frame. Joyce replied to my messages super quickly every day, which made me feel valued.
After we were back home on Wednesday morning, the first caregiver Sandra McLendon came on time! She was very friendly, patient, and professional, to help my mom taking care of my dad, as well as teach her a lot of tips. Even though my mom cannot speak English, they still communicate well with a translator.
Then, Joyce also send Norma Preciado for two days, Nataly Ortega for one day, and Sandra for the rest of the days. These ladies were all very professional. Sometimes, we need to leave home for a couple of hours, we both feel that we could trust them per their performance.
After the first week, we decided to stop the service. My dad is much better and we feel confident to work with him by ourselves. But I have to say, without these ladies, we would be super frustrating for the first week with no experience with stroke patient.
In overall, we appreciate to Jacqueline, Joyce, Sandra, Norma and Nataly! We felt very hopeless when everything happened at the beginning. But after one week transition, now we feel much better, to be with a patient.
If anyone needs emergency or non-emergency help, I 100% recommend FirstLight Home Care of Pasadena. They will treat you like their family for sure!
We used FirstLight Home Care while my uncle’s full-time caregiver took 4 weeks off to handle family business. My uncle has dementia but he is still very capable and very stubborn about not wanting help. I was very nervous, but FirstLIght was amazing from start to finish.
You can tell a lot about a service by the questions they ask to prepare for the care. Jackie contacted me with questions about my uncle’s personality, his level of cognitive and physical abilities, his life and interests, and about his current caregiver. All of these things helped her find the caregivers that would work best with him. My uncle is very selective about who he is willing to let help him, and Jackie made me feel completely at ease in honestly voicing his needs.
Joyce is the care coordinator and she was very communicative about who would be coming to work with my uncle. She also set me up with family access to notes so that I could see what the caregivers did with my uncle throughout the day, what he ate, if he showered, and anything else I needed to know. Joyce followed up with me often to make sure we were happy with their services and that my uncle was doing well.
I am very busy with my own family and work, and I was very appreciative to FirstLight for taking care of all of my uncle’s needs so that I wasn’t stressed and burdened with worrying about him. We will definitely use them in the future when our caregiver needs a break.
The caregivers provided were very nice and highly cooperative young ladies. They assisted my wife in showering and dressing. They certainly were compassionate in assisting my wife and doing some minor household chores. I can highly recommend First Light. I would also like to add that Joyce, First Light’s operations supervisor, was always helpful and quick to respond to my wife’s changing needs.
FirstLight has been providing compassionate and helpful caregivers for my mother’s care for about 1-1/2 months. Joyce (Operations Manager) has been able to find excellent caregivers for their regular shifts as well as one-off coverage as it’s cropped up (with a few days notice of course).

FLHCP provided great in-home care giving after my father’s recent hospitalization. The individual care givers were all compassionate and professional and helped me manage my father’s care during a very difficult period.
Operations Manager Joyce worked diligently behind the scenes to coordinate care giver scheduling and ensure that all shifts were covered. She was in regular contact to update me on which care gives were scheduled, my father’s condition and whatever supplies were needed.
I appreciate the efforts of Joyce and the FLHCP team and would recommend them to those in need of this type of service.
My experience with the two women who helped me after a medical procedure was fabulous. Each lady came at their designated shift on time. Each was very attentive and friendly. They were compassionate. I can’t think of one suggestion to recommend improvement on their part. EXCELLENT! I recommend them o making certain I coukd move around safely to dress after the procedure.to anyone or any company. The first lady (Irma) arrived at the hospital before my procedure began as the hospital told me she would do. She was very attentive to my safety after I came out of the anesthesia. She made certain I was safe and would fall as I was getting dressed. She continued to do so until her shift was over. Irma was a very sharp caregiver. She had the expertise to know how to handle any situation had it occurred. She provided me with above excellent care. The next young lady Natalie arrived on time. She was very friendly and also skilled at making certain all of my medical and physical needs were met. Probably half of her shift I slept but she was there for me whenever I wup. She woke me up when Irma returned for the last shift. Unfortunately for me, I went back to sleep immediately and Irma woke me up to tell me she was leaving and no one would be coming. I missed the opportunity to visit with her. She is very kind and fun to talk with. Once again, I would definitely recommend this agency as well as Joyce,who coordinates the care I required. Irma and Natalie were superb caregivers. I felt very aafe and comfortable with all of the ladies involved.

Fist of all, I am impressed with Joyce, the Care Service Manager, who gave me a daily update on how my sister was doing. She would also ask for immediate help, when problems were encountered, so we could act on them promptly. She is indeed very efficient & extremely helpful.

I have requested only women to come and take care of me while I regain my independence. Each of the ladies has been super understanding of my need to keep pushing myself and have been very encouraging. I needed to find someone trustworthy to help care for my 97 year old father. I interviewed several agencies in search of a company that would be able to provide a caregiver based upon our specific needs. First Light came through with flying colors. The entire process was straight forward and everyone I spoke with was helpful, and compassionate and sensitive to our needs. Joyce in particular was incredible. She was able to find the perfect caregiver for us as Aizhen (Lisa) was an incredible match and had the exact qualifications that we were seeking. Unfortunately, we only used Lisa for several days before my father fell ill. I was worried that placing a hold on the services and eventually cancelling the services would be a nightmare, but I simply texted Joyce and she cancelled the account. I could not have asked for better customer service from Joyce. She always responded to my texts within a couple of minutes and she genuinely seemed sympathetic to my family’s loss. I could not recommend a better agency than First Light when looking for agency to take care of a loved one.
When a 94-year old family friend who lives alone suddenly required round-the-clock home care after returning from the hospital, the lovely folks at FirstLight stepped in and had everything organized so swiftly: 3 shifts a day for a week, followed by decreasing shifts as necessary. They are incredibly well organized, with a terrific, reliable team of helpers, and Joyce (with whom I’ve dealt most frequently) is very careful to line up or adjust the schedule week by week depending on our ongoing needs. It was very easy to schedule care via Joyce at FirstLight. They were incredibly helpful in supporting my family and I as we took care of our dad after a fall that led to a concussion. Oscar from their staff was a tremendous help in making sure my dad was well cared for while I was at work.
