FirstLight Home Care Recognizes Caregiver of the Year

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – (May 22, 2014) — After caring for her own terminally ill father, Tammy Morgan decided she wanted to help others. But it has been clear since she joined FirstLight Home Care that she approached this as not just a job but as a calling.

Morgan’s calling has earned her recognition as the FirstLight Home Care 2014 National Caregiver of the Year. She was selected from thousands of caregivers among 80 FirstLight locations nationwide because of her ability and compassion shown in working with dementia patients.

Caring for those with dementia presents a unique set of challenges, and can be difficult for both family and the most experienced caregivers. One of Morgan’s finest qualities is her ability to interpret the mood and needs of a dementia patient.

Family members have expressed their appreciation for Morgan in letters describing her care.

“With Tammy’s dedication, love, experience and care, our parents are again both able to enjoy what every day has to offer,” said the daughter of a client whose mother returned home after initially being admitted to hospice care.

FirstLight Home Care, provider of quality, affordable, non-medical in-home care for adults, offers complete companion and personal care services for seniors, new mothers, those recovering from surgery and others in need of assistance. Services include bathing and hygiene, walking and mobility assistance, continence and toileting assistance and live-in services.

Morgan’s recognition as the national Caregiver of the Year is no surprise to Jim Crews, owner of FirstLight Home Care of Scottsdale.

“We knew Tammy was deserving of this award. Her combination of clinical skills, sense of humor and attention to detail is what puts her at the top of her field,” Crews said. “Through effective communication and anticipating the needs of her client, Tammy has been able to provide the care her clients need to remain in their homes.”

FirstLight CEO Jeff Bevis was equally impressed as he read the letters from family members of Morgan’s clients.

“Reading about Tammy’s impact on those she serves and their families was heartwarming. It’s clear she significantly improves their lives and, in doing so, is an excellent representation of our Culture of Care that makes FirstLight unique,” Bevis said.
