Local Resident Opens FirstLight Home Care in Springfield

Springfield, Va. (August 20, 2014) — FirstLight Home Care, provider of quality, affordable, non-medical in-home care for adults, is now open in Springfield. FirstLight Home Care of Springfield will serve residents of Springfield and Fairfax County. It is owned and operated by local resident Iris Hunter.

FirstLight Home Care offers complete companion and personal care services for seniors, new mothers, those recovering from surgery and others in need of assistance. Services include bathing and hygiene, walking and mobility assistance, continence and toileting assistance and live-in services.

Prior to opening FirstLight Home Care of Springfield, Hunter worked with a variety of non-profit organizations focused on improving the health and well-being of the community. While at the American Diabetes Association she served as vice president of High Risk Programs and Health Disparities. Prior to that, she worked for Save for Children as the national program director. She has a master’s degree in adult and community education and a doctorate degree focusing on community education, cultural studies and women’s studies.

Hunter’s history of passion, caring and desire to improve the community are a perfect match for this new venture, which allows her to provide compassionate care for seniors and other adults.

“To bring about meaningful change, you must be willing and flexible enough to meet people at the point of their needs with a level of service and respect they deserve,” Hunter said. “I believe that the FirstLight’s Culture of Care aligns with these beliefs.”

Hunter will be joined by her daughter, Randi Johnson, who recently relocated from South Carolina to help launch the business. Johnson has an undergraduate degree in media arts and a master’s degree in education.

“She brings a plethora of skills and expertise that I believe will help the business to sustain and grow,” Hunter said. “I feel blessed to have her by my side on this exciting journey.”
