Richmond Entrepreneurs Bring Home Care Services, Jobs to Community

FirstLight Home Care of Richmond opens to provide in-demand services to Richmond and Sugar Land

RICHMOND, Texas (February 23, 2017) – A local couple with a history in healthcare is bringing a new business focused on some of healthcare’s most in-demand services to the Richmond area.

Chinyere and Nicholas Ihek recently opened the doors to FirstLight Home Care of Richmond. The location is the latest from FirstLight Home Care, a leading national provider of non-medical home care for older adults; people with disabilities; those recovering from illness, injury or surgery; or anyone aged 18 or older who may need assistance or companionship where they live.

Non-medical home care is the fastest-growing healthcare segment, in large part because of the demand for home care services from the country’s rapidly growing population of older adults. According to a study by the AARP Public Policy Institute, 87 percent of adults ages 65 and older want to stay in their current homes and communities as they age. But many of them will need help to do so.

Home care provides the assistance and support people may need to live independently as they age. FirstLight also helps adults of all ages maintain independence as they cope with a health diagnosis or recovery, or adjust to a major life transition. In addition to the recipients of care, home care can also be a lifeline for family caregivers – those providing regular physical, emotional or household support to a loved one. A study by the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP estimates the family caregiver spends an average of 20 hours per week caring for loved ones. And a growing number of them are doing so while also taking care of children, maintaining a career and managing a household.

FirstLight Home Care of Richmond offers Personal Care Services, which provide assistance with the activities of daily living like bathing, mobility, meal preparation and more; and Companion Care Services like light housekeeping and laundry, errands and transportation, medication reminders and even visits from caregivers to keep a client company. FirstLight also offers specialty services to meet clients’ unique needs, including its Dementia Care Services, Travel Companion Program and Respite Care Services.

Chinyere, a pharmacist who’s spent her entire career in the healthcare field, said FirstLight stands out from other home care providers.

“Having been in the medical field for nearly 20 years, I quickly understood and appreciated what FirstLight stands for,” Chinyere said. “FirstLight’s Culture of Care means our focus is on assembling extraordinary caregivers who provide exceptional care to the clients they serve. And with the resources and support of a national provider behind us, we’re differentiated from many other local home care options.”

FirstLight Home Care of Richmond is located in a new facility at 8620 Grand Mission Blvd., Suite I, Richmond. It serves the Sugar Land and Richmond areas in Fort Bend County, also including Booth, Clodine, Crabb, Pleak, Rosenberg, Thompsons and surrounding communities.

The home care provider is currently accepting clients, as well as applications to join its team. The Iheks anticipate employing 15 to 20 local residents in caregiving and administrative roles within their first year in business. A grand opening celebration is planned for April.
