Local entrepreneurs and senior care advocates aim to meet increasing demand for non-medical caregiving services in their community

Glenn Garbowicz, along with his children, Katarina and Kody Garbowicz, recently opened FirstLight Home Care of Algonquin/Elgin, which provides a variety of home care services to residents in St. Charles, Huntley, Hoffman Estates and several other Illinois communities.

FirstLight Home Care of Algonquin/Elgin delivers non-medical home care to people who need companionship and help at home, including adults with disabilities, those recovering from illness, injury or surgery and anyone over the age of 18 who needs extra assistance. Highly trained FirstLight caregivers help with many needs, from errands, transportation and household tasks to individual needs like bathing and hygiene.

“It is a privilege to serve our community by helping people maintain their independence in the place they call home,” said Glenn. “We started this business after dealing with several caregiver challenges involving my mother who suffered from a variety of medical problems, including Alzheimer’s disease. We wanted to build an agency where caregivers receive the highest level of support and training so that they are able to take great care of our clients.”

Katarina and Jamie, the office’s Business Development Director, are also trained in Ageless Grace, a brain fitness program for seniors looking to enhance their quality of life. Additionally, this two-generation family team recently secured a second FirstLight location in the Barrington/Schaumburg area.
