FirstLight HomeCare of West Suburban Boston sponsored the July 20, 2016 Memory Cafe at the Newton Senior Center. The program featured the drums, bells, shakers and other percussion instruments of “Sugarfoot” Coley.
All participants–those with memory care needs, caregivers, and other supporters–were very engaged in the two-hour long program. At one point, Sugarfoot divided the room into two halves and led each group on a range of percussion music, from all corners of the world, playing off each other to create a fun “symphony”.
The Memory Café is a welcoming community setting to talk, enjoy light refreshments and socialize with other people in similar circumstances. Musicians, storytellers, poets and other artists are scheduled to provide engaging activities, to encourage participation and help reduce the loneliness and isolation often felt by people living with memory changes and dementia, and by their caregivers, friends and families. FirstLight HomeCare of West Suburban Boston is organizing a Memory Cafe in Needham, along with some key partners. Stay tuned for more details.
FirstLight HomeCare of West Suburban Boston will continue to support Newton Council of Aging programming. We will be sponsoring the October 31, 2016 Halloween Program which includes the talented ventriloquist, Brian Tiernan.
