Wendy Adlerstein, LSW, FirstLight HomeCare of West Suburban Boston’s Director of Client Care Services, was a panelist on a recent webinar, “Learn How to Help Your Parents Make the Best Possible Choices Now and in the Future”. In this video, a case study is first presented which introduces a couple in their 80s, Joe and Dorothy. They live in their home of 30 years and have three out of town grown children. Wendy describes how having someone in the home can help the couple be safe and meet their needs. She also discusses the factors to consider in deciding whether to stay in the home vs. move to a senior living community and how services might be brought into the home (or community).
Wendy talks about the assessment process where safety and individual needs are evaluated and other resources are offered which may provide support. Wendy also outlines the benefits of the relatively new Memory Café concept. She covers other resources available for clients and families including geriatric care managers. Finally, Wendy talks about how a home care agency matches a caregiver for Mom.
