This is the third in our series, Q&A on Care with Wendy, where our Executive Director and Co-Owner Wendy Adlerstein answers frequently asked questions about FirstLight Home Care of West Suburban Boston services.
This week she will be discussing the match between a caregiver and client.
Q: Do you guarantee the right caregiver fit?
A: In order to successfully match a caregiver with a client, we first need to understand the care needs and preferences. Using input from those involved in the care (family members, care managers, resident care directors, discharge planners, etc.) along with what I gather during the initial assessment or home visit, a custom care plan and schedule is created. We then identify caregivers who fit the needs of the schedule, preferences and skills required to execute the care plan. We review the care plan details with the caregiver and once they confirm their commitment, we notify the client and share some background information about the caregiver. Some clients want to do a meet and greet prior to moving forward – this can be done virtually or in person. We take these extra steps with attention to detail so that expectations for caregivers and clients are clear before starting care. We recognize that we are aiming to create a relationship, and if it is not a good match, we will identify and schedule another caregiver who we believe to be a better match. Ultimately, we work as a team to ensure that everyone feels comfortable. The importance of a good match is key to the success of good care. We have a deep and continually expanding workforce and we are committed to matching to a client and family’s satisfaction.
Learn the differences between Personal Care, Companion Care, and Dementia Care. Or what is often called Respite Care which can involve elements of all three areas.
